Caraway

Caraway  (Carum carvi) also known as Meridian Fenne

Similar  in appearance to the carrot plant  Caraway’s main stem grows around 40-60 cm tall.  It has stems 20-30 cm  with featherly leaves. Caraway  makes  fruit  that are crescent-shaped achenes  roughly 2mm long.  The plant prefers sunny , warm,  locations with well drained soil!

Native to the  Egypt area  Cumin grows in mostly hot countries and is from the parsley family. It  also is grown in the Americas as well a Morocco, China,  Africa and other areas. Cumin has a strong flavor that is often used in savory spice mixes.  Perfect for mexican foods  and chicken and pork dishes!
It is also used for sausages and cheeses! It has also been used as a pickling ingredient! Used in chili and curry power!
Cumin is good for the stomach, a diuretic, stimulant,, emmenagogic and antispasmodic ,astringent, carminative, and other other uses. It is also good for stimulating appetite!

Humulus lupulus is a perennial vine that thrives best in direct sunlight! It seems to do ok in partial shade also. Used for beer making it blooms from July to August. It is also used to make a tea and soda in various areas of the world. Its is from genus Cannabis (hemp) family. It is a bitter tasting herb that is used for its flavor and relaxing effect.

It gives an effect like Valerian,  given an ease to a sleepless night! The potency of the hops only stores for  a few months and is air and light sensitive.

Anise is sweet and very aromatic and distinguished by its Licorice flavor. Anise is a herbaceous plant that grows to around 3 foot tall. Anise is a mild antiparasitic  that can be used for digestive issues. Origanum majorana is native to North Africa and Southeast Asian
Sweet Marjoram has a mild oregano flavor with a hint of balsam. It is wonderfully aromatic. It is good with veal, beef, lamb, green veggies, carrots, eggplant, eggs, mushrooms, parsnips, potatoes, squash, and tomatoes. roast poultry,cauliflower,fish,  pates,! Fennel -Foeniculum officinale

Fennel is often used in fish dishes and thought to make it easier to digest fish.  It is also used as an insect repellant and also used in a tea in Europe for colic in babies.
It is very easy to grow and tends to like lose well drained soil. If you can’t plant it in fall or spring and does well through the winter months. Don’t over water it does not like too much water.  Never plant Fennel too close to tomatoes, beans, or cabbage plants. It tends to slow growth due to a chemical in the plant.
